Book Layouts

This was my first attempt at experimenting with the layout of my book. I think the crisp white background of the portrait and book gives it a clean and professiononal feel. I do not think the left side to the spead works as well as just using the album art makes it look flat. The writing also looks very cramped.

Here I have experimented with the text for my book. Due to the theme I decided to design it like the back of a CD. 

Possible things to put in profile: 

• Name
• Band name
• Genre of band
• When band was formed
• Number of members
• Favourite venue played
• Signature song of own band
• Musical influences
• Favourite song at the moment
• Greatest Musician
• First album ever bought

With this layout I incorporated my text into the actual back cover of the CD. I used the original text as a reference on how to style the writing. I do not think this works as the cover of the CD is distracting making the writing not the focus of attention.

To focus more attention on the writing I went back to incorporating my text into my own version of the back of the CD. I found that this also didn't work because despite the colours working on the original CD it looks odd out of context.

This final version is the best out of the lot, however I am still not happy with it. So in retrospect due to time limitations I have decided to keep the book simple by just using the text on its on for the left hand side of the spread.

As an idea I decided to experiment with matching the style of font to the genre of music each person played. However with the resources i have I could not find suitable fonts to do this. I found that the ones available made certain connotations for example the first font looks similar to one seen on a wedding invite, the second looks like newspaper text and the third restaurant text.

I feel this layout works much better and keeping the same font per person keeps it clean and simple.

After consideration, to make the book look more professional and clean I decided to make the font size smaller and keep it left aligned.
